Tournament fishing can be brutal – on your eyes!
Sunlight, wind, rain (and sometimes snow and hail!) can really leave your
eyes tired and bloodshot after a day on the water... unless you are wearing
a high-quality pair of polarized sunglasses. Since first trying them on, I
have been a fan of Maui Jim’s Maui Rose® rose-tinted lenses.
They are great from first light through weigh-in, with a high contrast
polarized lens that cuts through morning mist and blocks the harsh glare on
hot afternoons.
I recently got a pair of Maui Jims with the HCL®
(High Contrast Lens) bronze-tinted lenses. Was I impressed! Although they
are a different color, like the Maui Rose®, the HCL®
Bronze lens features Maui Jim’s patented PolarizedPlus®
technology, which blocks horizontally reflected glare plus glare from above,
below and behind the lens. That means less eye strain and better underwater
sight. And don’t forget that quality sunglasses reduce the risk of
cataracts.
If you are a fan of glass lenses, or need a
prescription lens, Maui Jim offers several lens types. I have a pair of the
“Maui” sunglasses with the HCL® bronze lenses that feature the
Flexon® memory metal frame – which automatically springs back to
its original shape when bent (kind of like those fancy flexible-shafted
spinnerbaits!). Another great thing about the Flexon® frame is
when you put the glasses on, they stay put -- no more messing around
re-adjusting them or having them slide down your nose. Which means one less
distraction on the water.
