Banana Nut BreadThe holidays always seem to bring out the urge to bake - there’s something heartwarming about sharing home made goodies with family and friends. This recipe has been in my family for more years than I care to think about. My aunt gave this recipe to my mother and it became a year-round favorite. It makes a wonderful gift, and is a change from cookies and candy. 1 egg ¼ cup shortening 2 mashed bananas 2 cups flour 3 tablespoons buttermilk ¾ cup sugar ¼ teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons baking soda 2 teaspoons baking powder ½ cup chopped nuts Cream shortening and sugar. Blend in beaten egg and fruit. Stir in dry ingredients, alternating with liquid. Stir in nuts. Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 55-60 minutes. Makes 1 loaf. - Linda Morton
